DeCordova is an incorporated city in Hood County, Texas, situated on the shores of Lake Granbury about six miles east-southeast of Granbury. It is one of the more unusual municipalities in Texas: a gated residential community that is also a city, with its own local government and a population of about 3,000. The community's origins are tied directly to Lake Granbury. In the late 1960s, the De Cordova Bend Dam was built on the Brazos River to control downstream flow, forming the lake. At the same time, DeCordova Bend Estates was developed as a planned recreational community around the new reservoir, originally intended as a weekend getaway for residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The development has since evolved into a full-time residential community, and DeCordova is now the second-largest incorporated city in Hood County.
