Lake Dallas is a city in Denton County, Texas, in North Texas, sitting on the shoreline of Lewisville Lake about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas. It is a compact community of roughly 2.5 square miles whose identity is tied to the reservoir at its edge; the city's name preserves the lake's original designation, since the impoundment was first known as Lake Dallas before being expanded in the 1940s and 1950s and renamed Lewisville Lake. The community developed as a lakeside resort and recreation destination before evolving into a full-time suburb along the Interstate 35E corridor between Dallas and Denton. Its population has climbed steadily with the growth of the corridor, reaching 7,708 in the 2020 census, as residents discovered a place that combines small-town scale with quick access to major employment centers. Lake Dallas is one of the Lake Cities, a cluster of adjacent lakeside municipalities — including Corinth, Hickory Creek, and Shady Shores — that share the shoreline and a common suburban character.
